Shannon was worried about Jared. He had got out of bed late and then spent most of the day mooching around their room. He did a bit of work on his laptop but didn’t have breakfast nor lunch.

Though he wanted her to think he was handling the news about his father well, she knew this was untrue. Jared was deeply upset. The situation was made even more complicated because her father-in-law was not answering Jared’s calls. Each time Jared phoned he was either resting or not feeling well enough to talk.

Every time her husband put down the phone after speaking to his mother, he seemed more worried and even quieter. The obvious thing to do would be to leave Sussex Abbey and go and visit her father-in-law but Jared was not ready. He was adamant they should not cut their vacation short.

Shannon kept Jared company, sitting on the huge sofa in their room and staring out the window at the gardens of the hotel. All she could think about was how much she hated Aleksey.

As soon as Jared had made peace with his father, she promised herself she would tell him about Aleksey. She must find the courage to do it and put her faith in how much she loved Jared and how much she believed he loved her.
